The Department of Engineering at the University of Liverpool is currently hosting three initiatives concerned with the development, collection, cataloguing, distribution and use of electronic resources in the teaching of Materials. This presentation will introduce three of these initiatives, provide an overview of their activity, and explore the learning materials, advice and support they provide. It will also provide examples of how computer-based learning resources including CES EduPack have been embedded in the teaching of Materials and Engineering at Liverpool. MATTER was established in 1993 to develop and help integrate computer-based learning into mainstream Materials teaching. It has won prestigious international awards for its sophisticated learning tools that feature a high degree of interactivity. Its most recent successes include SteelMATTER (online resources for ferrous metallurgy); aluMATTER (interactive e-learning materials for aluminium science and technology) and steeluniversity.org (highly interactive e-learning resources on steel technologies).
